Shattered Horizon Information

I recently picked up Futuremark's Shattered Horizon and it is as awesome as the game play footage and reviews made it out to be. Shattered Horizon does have a steep learning curve, but if you can stick with getting your butt handed to you, you will soon learn all the tips and tricks to the game. If you somehow haven't heard about this, check out the gameplay footage of Shattered Horizon at the bottom of this post.

The downside to Shattered Horizon is that it only runs on DirectX 10 and is an intensive game; I have a quad core setup and I still have to run it in windowed mode on lower settings. Adding to that problem is that some of the maps (I'm looking at you IIS) have lots of "clutter". Add in the fact that the game is big on physics makes for machine crushing requirements. On the plus side, Futuremark has said that there will be a free map pack for Shattered Horizon in the near future. The new map pack is tittled "Moonrise" and will come with four new maps; they will be released to beta testing first and then to the rest of us space pleebs.

Futuremark also has hinted at a single player campaign for Shattered Horizon as well. “We’re very interested in using the Shattered Horizon IP in future titles,” said Summala in an interview with TVGB. “We spent more time and effort creating the setting and backstory than many multiplayer only games normally do, and the reception from players and press alike has been very positive. Many players tell us they would love to explore the game world in a single-player campaign.”

A single-player campaign for Shattered Horizon would be a great way to get the hang of combat before being thrust into the merciless cold that is multiplayer. All things considered, I really enjoy the complexity of fighting in zero g with six degrees of control. Now, if I could only change the FOV to something more enjoyable, I would be set.

Here is the gameplay footage of Shattered Horizon; it is super wonderful in HD.
