Digital Imaging Final Project
My idea for my final project for digital imaging is to use a series of three self portraits; specifically focusing on my face. Each image would be with a different set of glasses and I would use creative cropping to enhance the images. The two side pieces would be of half the face and the middle would be an extreme closeup of the glasses. IN each piece I will have special effects in the lens area and then using the negative/white space to put in a more solid background.
Edit: Here is my Digital Panting Concept.
Digital Imaging-Surrealistic Artists
Part 1:
Max Ernst: was a German painter, sculptor, graphic artist, and poet. A prolific artist, Ernst is considered to be one of the primary pioneers of the Dada movement and Surrealism. He also created the technique callead 'grattage' in which paint is scraped across canvas to reveal the imprints of the objects placed beneath. He was born in 1891 and died in 1976.
The other artist is a Deviant artist that goes by Kosmur.
Part 2:
Artist’s Name:
Max Ernst
Title of Artwork:
Ubu Imperator
Date of Work:
1923
Description:
The painting's background is a desert with a blue sky. The main subject sits prominently in the middle and looks to be a kind of metal top. He has an interesting metal grate texture all over the body and has green hair (or what could be a scarf. His hands are up in what appears to be the orant pose. He looks towards the right of the painting.
Analysis:
The painting has the subject right smack dab in the middle. THere are two minor poles to either side of the main subject (on the left, the pole is in the background quite a ways, and to the right, it is a bit more in the foreground). There is both implied lines and actual lines in this piece. Implied lines from the poles in the background and actual with the texture of the subject.
Interpretation:
I have no idea what the painting means, I mean, here is this otherworldly looking object with human hands in the middle of the desert. The word Imperator (from the title) means commander in Latin, so maybe this guy is commanding some unseen force.
Judgment:
I think the painting is a strong one and shows a great deal of surrealism. To me, it means that it is obviously alien, but still connects to me with the human hands.
Part #2.a
Artist’s Name:
Kosmur
Title of Artwork:
Assembler
Date of Work:
March 3, 2008
Description:
The image shows the body of a male subject staring at a microchip in his hand. Well, he would be staring except he has no face; where is face should be it is a sort of bowl with the front missing. Spilling out of the "face" is a bunch of electronics onto some newspaper.
Analysis:
The picture has a bit of the captured motion, as one of the components has a bit of blur as it falls.
Interpretation:
This picture could be focusing on how man always is tinkering with himself and his objects; always trying to improve on what he is/has. The title of assembler could also mean that he is looking at the monumental task of putting his "brain" together.
Judgment:
II really like this image due to the electronics tie. It also reminds me of some of the HP commercials where they have the normal face of the person, but when they pan behind they have some kind of concert going on.
Part 3
The major differences between the Ubu Imperator and the Assembler is that of textures; The Imperator is chock full of texture in both the subject and the background. The Assembler does have texture for the background, but where the face is, it is smooth and only faintly has texture of wood grain.
